Episcopal Identity

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” —Psalm 119:105

At St. Stephen’s Episcopal School, our faith tradition shapes how we gather, reflect, and grow. As part of the Episcopal Church, we value thoughtful inquiry, compassion, diversity, and connection.

Through weekly Chapel, daily classroom rituals, and shared values, we help students explore what it means to live with purpose and integrity—whatever their individual beliefs may be. Our Episcopal identity is not about exclusivity, but about welcoming all into a space of reflection, tradition, and belonging.

Chapel at Every Age

Chapel is a cornerstone of our spiritual life. Services are age-appropriate and held weekly in our beautiful sanctuary. They offer time for stillness, music, community, and reflection.

  • Orientation (up to 15 minutes): Candle lighting, bell ringing, simple prayers, and birthday blessings
  • Primary & Lower Elementary (up to 30 minutes): Ritual participation, music, and engaging spiritual stories
  • Upper Elementary & Middle Years (up to 40 minutes): Student-led readings, music, homilies, and discussions that connect faith with ethics, culture, and current events

All Are Welcome

We honor and celebrate religious and cultural diversity within our community. Students and faculty of all faiths—and of no faith—are invited to participate, reflect, and connect in ways that are meaningful to them. We believe that asking questions and seeking understanding is a vital part of spiritual growth.

Our Shared Values

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and School share six core values that guide our lives together:

  • Individuality – We affirm and celebrate every person’s uniqueness.
  • Service – We live out our faith through acts of service and justice.
  • Questioning – We value curiosity and thoughtful inquiry.
  • Relationships – We build meaningful, respectful connections with others.
  • Belief – We explore and honor our personal and shared beliefs.
  • Future – We cherish the future and our responsibility to shape it with care.

These values are present in our classrooms, in Chapel, and in the way we treat one another every day.
